THANKSGIVING IS HERE…
Posted by: cookie - Nov 18, 2011I don’t know when I noticed it, but the Thanksgiving holiday has gotten lost between Halloween and Christmas. I remember, as a little girl, this was a very special family time. Relatives would come. The table would be filled with wonderful home cooked food.
The Thanksgiving menu was pretty much the same every year. It included turkey, dessing, giblet gravy, cranberry sauce, butter beans, collard greens, lime congealed salad, sweet potato soufflé. For dessert there would be pound cake, ambrosia(made from oranges, coconut, & bananas), and maybe pecan & pumpkin pies.
My precious Mama worked for several days getting everything prepared. Aunts and uncles would bring the vegetables and most of the desserts. Daddy would always remind us through his prayer that God had blessed us abundantly and we needed to thank Him for His generosity.
We were farmers so most of the food was grown on our land. That being so, we found it easier to recognize God’s blessings.
From LifeCare I pray that each of you will have a blessed time with your families. Encourage your loved ones to talk about what they’re thankful for. Reading about the first thanksgiving is a good way to learn about the pilgrims and why they came to America.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
